Schematic of a 2.4V NiCd (NiCad) Cordless Screwdriver from 1997. The charger is a classic transformer and a bridge without any filter capacitor. Charging current is limited simply by a resistor. Then there's just an LED indicator, two rechargeble 1.2V NiCd cells in SubC (SC) size, two way switch and a motor. There's really nothing else :). Nice example of how simple the things can be built. This device still works well after 20 years.
