"Elektronika 11-03" Soviet digital clock

Elektronika 11-03 (Электроника 11-03) alarm clock was produced in USSR in late 1980's. It was built with flat 4-digit 7-segment VFD display IVL1-7/5 (ИВЛ1-7/5) or ILC4-5/7L (ИЛЦ4-5/7Л) with 21mm high digits. The clock is clocked by 32768 Hz crystal. It has 11 control buttons (8 in at the front and 3 at the top). I measured the power consumption to be cca 2W.

My clock needed replacement of dried out 100uF 50V electrolytic capacitor (see photo below). The clock is built for 220V 50Hz mains. In 230V or 240V countries the cathode (heater filament) can suffer from overvoltage (nominal voltage is 5V~). This can be solved adding a resistor (2R2 to 4R7) in series with the heater filament.

Warning! The clock contains deadly mains voltage, any intervention is at your own risk. I do not take responsibility for your injury or death.

Opened Elektronika 11-03.

Elektronika 11-03 during repair - the faulty 100uF / 50V electrolytic capacitor had to be replaced. After its replacement it works.
