"Elektronika 2-08" Soviet digital clock

Elektronika 2-08 (Электроника 2-08) alarm clock was produced in USSR in late 1980's. It was built with flat 4-digit 7-segment VFD display IVL1-7/5 (ИВЛ1-7/5) or ILC4-5/7L (ИЛЦ4-5/7Л) with 21mm high digits. The clock is clocked by 32768 Hz crystal. It is controlled using buttons: Reset, Set minutes, Set hours, Alarm on/off switch and Time/alarm display switch. Interesting feature is a potentiometer that allows you to regulate the brightness linearly (looks just like a volume control in a radio). I measured the power consumption to be cca 2W.

My clock had very worn display. After its replacement the clock works perfect. The clock is built for 220V 50Hz mains. In 230V or 240V countries the cathode (heater filament) can suffer from overvoltage. This can be solved adding a resistor (2R2 to 4R7) in series with the heater filament to set the voltage as close as possible to the nominal 5V~.

Warning! The clock contains deadly mains voltage, any intervention is at your own risk. I do not take responsibility for your injury or death.

Elektronika 2-08 (Электроника 2-08). Made in 1989. At the back, it is marked as Elektronika 2-08. This clock is interesting because it has gradual brightness control using a potentiometer.
