Electric hot air fan ETA 614 (space heater) was produced around the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s.
It was produced by the national enterprise Elektro-Praga Hlinsko under the brand name ETA (since 1991 a joint-stock company).
The ETA 614 heater has 2 separately switched heating elements 1kW each, a total of 2kW, and a fan consuming approximately 15W (asynchronous shaded pole motor).
It is powered from a 220V 50Hz ac mains. The fan can also run without the heater elements switched on.
The heater is equipped with a bimetallic thermostat. The indicator neon lamp is connected in parallel to the thermostat, so
it lights up when the thermostat is off. This heater is also equipped with a reversible bimetallic thermal fuse, which can be reset using a button on the back.
There is also a main switch on the control panel. In older versions, the indicator light was square in the lower left corner of the panel, later rectangular
located between the switches. There was a myth about heaters (and also hair dryers, including the Zlatník Ostrava type EM 521)
that you can turn on the heater coil without the fan, which will cause the coil to burn out.
In reality, this cannot happen - the coils are connected after the main switch and turning off the fan always turns them off too.
My piece from April 1988 was in pretty bad shape, but I managed to fix it. I cleaned the disassembled cabinet with a brush and soap (3x due to the amount of dirt).
Small parts cleaned with ethanol. I ran a rolled-up handkerchief through the bearings (removing metal particles) and then lubricated them with PTFE grease.
I cleaned the thermostat and thermal fuse contacts with a strip of paper and contact cleaner. I grounded the metal cabinet. I tightened the screw connections of the heater spirals
and fixed the uneven spacing of the spiral turns. This is not an instruction. You do everything at your own risk - risk of electric shock, fire and burns.
